Submarines in Weedy Little Boxes

The Submarines (featuring Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti) had their version of the theme song “Little Boxes” air on the October 2nd episode of Weeds on Showtime! Other artists who have also covered the song this season include Elvis Costello, Death Cab for Cutie, Dengue Fever, Englebert Humperdink, and the McGarrigle Sisters. The Weeds MySpace page will be streaming the song as well.

Chris Brokaw Happenings

Chris Brokaw has just joined forces on electric guitar with Two Dollar Guitar, a long-standing act featuring Tim Fohljan (formerly Cat Power) and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), and after a series of New York appearances this month, will tour part of the US and Europe with them in November and December. Chris will open every show with a solo set.

Chris will be accompanying Bob Mould at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, NYC on November 9 for a sold-out benefit show of the music of Bob Dylan. Also on the bill: Patti Smith, The Roots, Cat Power, Roseanne Cash, Seal, Jill Sobule, Allen Toussaint, Chris and Rich Robinson, Ryan Adams, Phil Lesh, Al Kooper, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Lee Renaldo and many more.

Geoff Farina to Join Brokaw

And for more on Brokaw with an extra helping of Geoff Farina: Chris will soon be recording an album with Geoff (ex-Karate) to be comprised entirely (or almost) of pre-World War II blues songs.

Snowleopards Win It!

Congratulations are due to the The Snowleopards (featuring Heidi Saperstein), who won the 2006 Boston Music Award for Local Song of the Year.

Listen in on Wednesday evening, October 18 at around 9:00 pm to WMFO‘s On the Town With Mikey Dee show (91.5 FM) to hear them live in a full-band performance.
