2010 and Quiet

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Nope, not enough activity to write home about.  Except that Rosa Chance Well had a song placed in the 2009 Dec 13th episode of the ABC TV show Eastwick. Congrats to Vanessa and Dean!!!! And thanks to Eric at The Music Playground for negotiating the deal.

Oh, and our WordPress installation got hacked. So I had to reinstall it. And I haven’t had time to get the Kimchee custom theme running, so you’ll notice it looks kinda white right now.  White as milk.

For now, you can access all the artist and catalog pages via the links on the left. (Scroll down if you have to.) Archives are on the left too, but for wicked old stuff, follow this link to posts older than June 2005.

Andy

Brief 2009 Update

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

For those who might be wondering…

Kimchee Records (Ipswich) is not exactly kaput, but has not been in any way active over the last two years…and may well remain that way. Our titles our almost all still available via check from the Kimchee home base or charge through The Garment District, so don’t be afraid to order! You can also find them on Amazon and CDBaby. Meanwhile, Kimchee Studio (Cambridge) is still active and run by Mr. Andy Hong.

Have a swell 2009!

Peripherally yours,

Bob

Shepherdess Joins Kimchee Flock

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

The time: a little over a week ago.

“Huh? Wha? C’mon, Hilken, I’m still asleep. You want what? The Kimchee logo…but why? ”

That’s kinda what happened. Kimchee has been in slumber mode, not putting out any new music for well over a year, our last release being the Hilken Mancini and Chris Colbourn CD in late 2005. Yes, we had a couple swell 10th Anniversary parties a few months ago, but we’ve been unsure whether it was time to settle in for some eternal rest…or not.

Turns out not. Hilken had written a bunch of great new songs. She’d put together a new band made up of some of her pals she’s been playing with for a while, namely Mike Savage (drums) and Winston Braman (bass), as well as Emily Arkin on violin, to play these new songs. Thalia Zedek was borrowed to sing a cover by a certain well-known songsmith (think Zimmerman). Kimchee Records’ Andy Hong engineered and mixed the ten tracks to make them into an album. Jeff Lipton of Peerless mastered it.

Now Kimchee wants you to know about it.

Promotion will undoubtedly be a bit haphazard, due to the last-minute quality of this brand new association between Shepherdess and Kimchee. But we know this:

This Friday, May 18, there will be copies of the debut CD by Shepherdess available at what looks to be a marvelous show at the Plough & Stars (912 Mass Ave in Cambridge). Playing along with Shepherdess will be New Randy, Stephen Brodsky, Jeff Breeze and Clint Conley (that Mission of Burma guy). You might even call this a CD Release Show. Does that give the event more ooomph?

We here at Kimchee are really digging this album. It rocks rather ferociously, which is a very good thing. We expect the press and radio will get their hands on it soon. But you can beat them to it if you want by going to this show.

See you there, my lovely sheep!

Photo Doc of the 10th Anniversary Shows

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

All hail Tim Bugbee, who took photos at the two Kimchee 10th Anniversary shows! Unfortunately he ran out of batteries right before the Thalia Zedek Band took to the stage, so we are missing documentation of that…and most Seekonk members were playing under the thin illumination of a blue 10 watt bulb, so those individuals are shorted as well. Here are just a few of them, but there is much more at the Kimchee MySpace Pic Page.

Heidi Saperstein of The Snowleopards Dylan Metrano and Jake Trussell of Tiger Saw

Robert Fisher of Willard Grant Conspiracy Paula Kelley

Geoff Farina Hilken Mancini of Shepherdess

Todd Hutchisen of Seekonk Tim Eriksen of Cordelia's Dad
