It’s November. Time to gobble gobble…up the new self-titled Hilken Mancini and Chris Colbourn album! You’ll surely need to if you’re a fan of guitar-driven pop, irresistible harmonies, and super-solid songwriting. It’s all here on this disc, which lands in your neighboring retail record racks on November 15th. (But if you simply can’t wait, the Garment District has it available right about…now!)

The record release show is on Thursday, November 17, at ZuZu! in Cambridge. Joel from Death Vessel opens at 10:00.
Hilken and Chris are appearing on various radio shows this month playing live for that good ol’ promotional push of their musical wares. Tune into these:

Tue Nov 8: Pipeline! on WMBR 88.1fm at 8:00 pm (webcast)

You may recall that a year ago the UK’s Mojo magazine featured a Johnny Cash tribute CD on which the Willard Grant Conspiracy contributed a track. Well, now WGC’s Robert Fisher (whose vocal timbre has often been compared to Cash’s) is featured on a record entitled Elegy for Johnny Cash, released by one Mr. Jackie Leven on Cooking Vinyl. Robert sings one song on the album and offers some vocal support to another.
Jackie is a remarkable songwriter from Scotland’s Kingdom of Fife. His life is worth at least one book and a few broadsides to cover all of his adventures. Robert and Jackie met at the Canterbury Fayre Festival in 2002 and formed a friendship while touring together in 2003. The song “Law of Tides” was recorded during a brief pre-tour session in Wales amidst the mists and mountains.

On the October 29 edition of Garrison Keillor’s great Prairie Home
Companion radio show, Tim Eriksen of Cordelia’s Dad
played two songs (”O Death” and “Two Babes”), available for listening on their
archive
page.
And Cath Oss Tyler, also of
Cordelia’s Dad, has
joined her husband Phil’s band
Spraydog (which
has been active for about 10 years now) as their new bassist. She plays her
first gig with the band on November 6 at the Red Rooms on Nelson Street in
Newcastle, UK.
